Spring Fever at the Care Center
Spring Fever has arrived at the North Shore Care Center with the warmer April weather and longer days of sunlight. The residents are looking forward to spring like activities with indoor and outdoor planting by Earth Day, and making crafts for the upcoming Spring Fling Sale.
Thinking Spring at the Care Center
Spring is in the air for everyone at the North Shore Care Center – especially with daylight saving time and the first day of spring just around the corner. March also brings the fun of St. Patrick’s Day, indoor gardening projects, and the season of Easter.
January Activities at the Care Center
The holiday season was joyful and fun for residents at North Shore Care Center with lots of traditional foods, music, gifts, and visitors. The residents want to thank the carolers, musicians, and volunteers for a memorable Christmas with best wishes for a happy new year.

Cook County North Shore Hospital is now listed on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Hospital Compare webpage. This webpage reports various process of care measures including heart attack or chest pain process of care measures, pneumonia process of care measures, and heart failure process of care measures. In addition, mortality rates and hospital readmission rates are also included on the webpage. Often the number of cases are too small to reliably tell how well the hospital is performing. The Hospital continues to focus on processes to achieve compliance with the process of care measures.

EKGs
Cook County North Shore Hospital and Care Center now has the capability of sending EKG's to specialists via the internet. All EKG's are read by a cardiologist, patients 18 and under are read by a pediatric cardiologist. This can be of help to the physician covering the Emergency Department because they have the ability to call the cardiologist on call if there are any questions as to what is seen on the EKG, possibly speeding up the care of a patient with an abnormal EKG. Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Cook County North Shore Hospital and Care Center has magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A mobile MRI service available every other Saturday. Please call 387-3268 for more information.
Short Term Rehab
Recuperating from a hospital stay due to illness? Need restorative treatments following a surgery? Allow the Cook County North Shore Hospital and Care Center to assist you in meeting you goal, a safe return home through a short-term rehab stay right here in your own community. Daily physical and occupational therapy is offered in a skilled nursing setting to meet your needs as you recover. Health Care Directives
Health Care Directives, sometimes called advanced directives, are legal documents that describe you healthcare wishes should you become unable to communicate you decisions. It provides peace of mind for you and your loved ones when confronted with end-of-life health care decisions as well as appoints a health care agent (substitute decision maker) to make treatment decisions on your behalf if necessary. Cardiac Rehab
Referrals are accepted for cardiac rehab at Cook County North Shore Hospital and Care Center. Cardiac rehab is staffed by a registered nurse. Hours are Mon, Wed, Thu 8-noon or by appointment. Call 218-387-3040.
Out Patient Physical Therapy
Cook County North Shore Hospital and Care Center is proud to offer a full service Out Patient Physical Therapy Department with special interests in postural therapy, sports injury prevention and treatment, vertigo and balance disorders, incontinence and manual therapy with exercise for the spine and extremities. We are open M-F and can be reached at 218-387-3284. Our In Patient PT services include treatment for hospital patients and care center residents.
Home Health Services
North Shore Home Care is a Medicare certified intermittent Home Care Agency offering Skilled Nursing, Home Health Aide, Occupational and Physical Therapy services in the home. We bill Medicare, Medical Assistance, Insurance, and accept Private Pay on our Sliding Fee Scale. Please call Nathan at 387-3280 for more information.
Laboratory Services
Happy New Year from the Laboratory Staff at Cook County North Shore Hospital! Start off 2013 with a New Year’s Resolution to take care of yourself and be more organized. Did you know that the lab tests your doctor orders can provide critical information about your health? And if you get your labs done about a week before your appointment, you won’t have to wait for lab results when you see your doctor. This means more time at home, less time away from work, or more time to shop while at an out of town appointment! Remember to bring your physician-signed lab referral (from your local clinic or out of town/specialist) and contact information for the physician office for the test results. Digital Mammography Service
Cook Co North Shore Hospital installed a new digital mammography machine that has passed the interim ACR accreditation and passed the annual FDA inspection in June 2012.
